Ever wondered why your eyes close when you kiss? Science has a fascinating answer.

Many people wonder why we close our eyes when we kiss. It seems scientists have taken notice too, conducting research into the reasons behind this automatic response.

Focusing on the Sensation

A study conducted at the University of London revealed that we close our eyes while kissing because the brain wants to focus more on that moment. Due to the intense signals coming from the lips, the human brain cannot properly process visual stimuli at the same time.

Keeping Eyes Open Makes It Harder to Focus

Another study looked at the sense of touch and visual stimuli. According to research carried out at Royal Holloway University, when our sense of touch is active and intense, it can be affected by visual stimuli received simultaneously.

In other words, if you keep your eyes open during a kiss and focus on the other person's face rather than the kiss itself, your response to the signals your sense of touch sends to the brain will be significantly reduced. This will cause you to enjoy the moment less.
