6 Signs Your Date Is Into You
Wondering if your date likes you? Here are 6 body language clues to watch for.
On a first date, one question lingers in the back of our minds: “Do they like me?” One of the most common ways to find an answer is by reading the other person’s body language. So what are those body language tips? Here are the answers...
1. If they play with their hair, you’re on the right track
According to body language experts, people touch or adjust their hair when they’re around someone they like. This unconscious gesture is driven by instinct. Women instinctively tuck their hair behind their ears to reveal the soft curves of their face. But playing with hair isn’t just a female thing. Men also find themselves adjusting their hair around someone they’re interested in, even if they don’t realize it.
2. If they’re glued to their phone, be alarmed
These days, the problems of being late or ruining the mood with a bad joke have been replaced by people who dive into their smartphones right after small talk. If your date frequently checks their phone or even texts during the first date, it’s worth raising an alarm. Unless they suffer from nomophobia (phone addiction), they’re either not that interested in you or they’re texting their friends about how the date is going. Either way, spending time on their phone instead of getting to know you sends a negative message. But if you still like them, you can try bringing up a fun topic to give them another chance.
3. Small touches
If they lightly touch your hand, arm, or shoulder during conversation, they like you. Keep in mind that some people just have a habit of touching while they talk, so observe their overall behavior. If they smile at your words even when they’re not funny and gently touch your arm, they probably want to be close to you and get to know you better.
4. Eye contact matters
If they don’t look away while talking and even look directly into your eyes, there’s no doubt there’s a physical attraction between you. If they make eye contact while you speak and their pupils seem larger and brighter than usual, it means they’re interested in you and waiting for your attention.
5. If they mimic you, you’re on the right track
Are they copying your every move, almost mimicking you? You put your hand on the table, crossed your legs, took a sip of coffee—and they repeat the same actions? According to experts, someone who unconsciously mimics your movements feels close to you and likely trusts you. If you notice someone mirroring your gestures, even occasionally, on a first date, consider yourself lucky—you’ve already earned their trust.
6. Love makes the face smile
If the person across from you is cheerful and smiles even in the most tense moments, there’s one thing you can be sure of: they like you. Dates can sometimes bring annoying situations—the waiter brings the wrong order or someone else is seated at your reserved table. If your date smiles and can have fun with such potentially tense situations, it means they’re happy to spend time with you no matter what. Whether things go wrong or not, if someone smiles often for no reason, it means a second date will definitely be arranged by the end of the night.
