Discover 5 simple ways to nurture a happy relationship, from compliments to apologies.

Want a happier relationship? Relationship expert and life coach Mehmet Murat Lik says that today's focus on individualism makes couples expect too much from each other, leading to quickly burned-out relationships. Here are his 5 tips for a happy relationship.

1. Compliment each other. Don't neglect each other.

Have you ever thought about why you're together? Isn't it to share your happiness, joys, and sorrows and to enjoy life more? If so, say something nice to each other at least once a day and make each other happy. Create opportunities for activities you enjoy doing together. When the time is right, one of you can go watch a game with friends while the other goes to the movies.

2. Don't yell at each other during arguments.

It's natural to have disagreements about certain issues in a relationship. Couples can have small arguments from time to time. What matters here is that couples are kind to each other. Both sides should soften their criticism. Because yelling at each other won't solve anything.

3. Remember, love is not a power struggle.

Love requires finesse. Always remember that love is not a power struggle. If there's an argument, let your partner win, and thus your relationship wins. Have you ever thought about how an argument grows? Is it realistic to blame only the other person? In short, there are two sides to an argument, and since you also have a part in it, don't forget to be kind to each other.

4. Let the past stay in the past.

Couples may have made mistakes in the past. During an argument, don't constantly bring up a past mistake that has nothing to do with the current issue and increase the intensity of the argument. Couples should stop constantly reminding each other of past mistakes.

5. If you're wrong, admit it and apologize.

Making a mistake isn't the end of the world. If you realize you're wrong, admit it and apologize. However, don't make a habit of constantly making mistakes and apologizing.
